And didn't say "wipe", I said "clean"! Today I just finished explaining to my boyfriend exactly what a bidet is. I gave him an in-depth history of how long these wonderful tools have been around, and why many Americans aren't extremely familiar with them. He now knows that this fabulously luxurious cleansing tool can be used on men & women, alike. Yes this tool is truly the next best thing to sliced bread when it comes to maintaining the highest degree of cleanliness your body has ever experienced. At the end of our conversation, he was fully convinced that every household MUST have one of these fabulous devices! Once you hear of the amazing benefits I'm sure you will too! So my dear readers, if you do not want to be pulled into the world of not being able to rest until your home is equipped with a bidet, then don't read any farther!

How Exactly Do You Pronounce It?

OK, for a little humor, it is VERY important that you first of all know how to precisely pronounce the word first. If you sound like you know what your talking about, you will be able to convince your significant other all the more so that you can't live another day without one. OK, as for a little bit of history, the word "bidet" is originally from the french language. As for the correct pronunciation in the English language, understand that the "t" is silent, and the word is pronounced in two syllables. "Bi", and then "Det" (Det is pronounced as "Day") So try it. Bidet. (Bi-Day). Got it?

Why Haven't I Heard Of A Bidet?

This fabulous tool actually dates back to the 18Th century. So why haven't you heard of it? Well its funny how certain things that seem to be of necessity don't really get a lot of attention in North America until later, if ever.  The Bidet is one of those things.  It was invented in France around the 18Th century among the furniture makers there.  The bidet is primarily found in Southern European countries, South American countries, some of Africa, some of Asia, and almost ALL homes in the Arab world.   You will occasionally see a bidet in North America but if you do, such as in my case, it will be in the home of a friend whom came from a country that normally uses bidets.

The Exciting Part: Uses For The Bidet!

The first time I saw a bidet, I was walking through my Italian friends bathroom and saw this toilet-like contraption in the middle of their bathroom floor. Usually when a North American sees this they do exactly what I did, and assume it was a toilet. My friend quickly explained to me that the use of that contraption was MUCH more different than a toilet..... and I've been hooked ever since. Yes, the bidet is similar in size to a toilet, but you can think of it as a quick, convenient wash basin for your lower extremities. Yes the purpose of a bidet is to quickly and completely cleanse, and wash your lower genitalia area when its not appropriate to take a full shower. The biggest reason people use bidets is in preparation for, or to clean up after sexual activity, or to get a true clean feeling after using the bathroom! Bidets can also be used to quickly wash your baby, or to give your feet a quick bath.  There are even travel bidets.  But to explain the usage a bit farther, whenever we go to the bathroom what do we normally use to cleanse ourselves? Toilet tissue. If you think about it, this is one of the most unclean habits that we have gotten comfortable with. But once again, if this is how you are raised, it become second nature, just like having a bidet is second nature for some. Yes, when we use the bathroom and wipe ourselves with dry toilet paper we no doubt leave a bit of residue on our bodies. And we walk around with this residue in our lower extremities all day, until our next shower! Have you ever thought about it that way? Well that is what most of us have been doing several times a day for our entire lives. How unclean is that?! In comes the bidet. With a bidet, after using the bathroom you will sit on the bidet, turn on the water, and wash yourself with a little soap until you are completely clean. Afterwards you may pat dry with a towel that you use especially for the bidet (which of course you will want to wash/replace every week or so). But can you not see how this is so much more refreshingly clean than dry wiping with some toilet paper? And imagine how convenient this tool is when it comes to sexual activity. You may not need a full shower, but just want to "spruce" up "down-there". With the bidet, you can do this and feel confident that you are fresh and clean! And even after you and your mate are done rolling around in the sack, you may want to go back and freshen up again. Yes, the bidet is truly the best thing since sliced bread! (Or should we say "toilet paper"....If toilet paper can even be considered THAT great). Yes I think this is that part that got my boyfriend excited! After I told him this, he was ready to go out and immediately put one in his home!

The Hand Held Bidet

OK, so now that we know exactly what I bidet is and how beneficial it is, now we will discuss different options for this awesome tool. Yes this tool comes in several different designs. Some bidets can be filled with water similar to a china basin, so you can wash, and then drain when finished. Other types have a arc of water that propels straight up in to the air designed to perfectly hit the anal area. Another option is a device that hooks directly to the toilet itself. The option we have highlighted in this article is the hand held bidet which is completely portable and can be used over your toilet. Yes, with this type you simply fill it up with water and cleanse yourself with a spraying action. So there are several options to use when it comes to bidets. You can pick the one that suits you the best. Please be sure to comment below if you have used a bidet before. If you would be interested in purchasing a bidet, there are several places on the net this can be done. Some of the best prices can be found through Amazon.
